Review: MAC Gently Off Eye And Lip Makeup Remover

I recently bought the MAC Gently Off Eye And Lip Makeup Remover because I was having such a hard time removing my Fasio Ultra Curl Lock Mascara (see review here). I read great reviews of this product online about how it works wonderfully for removing waterproof eye makeup. Let's see if the MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover is stronger or if Fasio Ultra Curl Lock Mascara is tougher!

What is the MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover made of?
This product is half oil half water so you have to shake it well before using. The picture above is the after. The picture below is before shaking. As you can see, there are 2 separate layers:

I personally don't like oil based makeup remover because they always cause my skin to breakout. But since my Fasio mascara is so tough, I have no choice.

Does it get the job done?
I have to say I am pretty disappointed by the MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover. The review online seems to praise this as the best waterproof makeup remover out there. However, it still doesn't beat the Fasio mascara! It only gets 60% of the mascara off. The remaining I still have to go through my regular Shiseido Perfect Whip Foam Cleanser to get the job done. It's only worth a 2.5/5.

Gently off?
The MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover does burn my eyes slightly once it got into my eyes; although I quickly wash it off under running tap water and it's fine. I found lotion eye makeup remover is normally more gentle than these oil/water based formula. Since it doesn't cause too bad burn to my eyes, I give this 3/5.

Price/Effectiveness Ratio?
I call this the P/E ratio (not to be mistaken for price-earning ratio for you financial geeks out there!). Basically it is about how effective the product is relative to its price. When I write a review, I hope it is as useful to my readers as possible. As always MAC items are pretty reasonably priced. This MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover costed me less than $30. However since it only gets 60% of the makeup removed, I don't think it's worth the full $30. I give this 2.5/5 as well.

Will I buy it again?
Probably not as I rarely use water-proof makeup and I probably won't get the Fasio mascara again. I am not a fan of this product as it does only a so-so job. Anyways I hope you like this review! If you have any better waterproof eye makeup remover that is better this MAC Gently Off Eye and Lip Makeup Remover please let me know!! Thanks! 1. Interesting review, I tend to use Clarins eye make up remover. I have never considered using oil based for getting rid of heavier, more water-proof mascaras though - thanks for that insight! x

  2. Shame you didn't like this. I have a bottle and I love it. Waterproof mascara is defo a nightmare to remove, what I find this works brilliantly for though is removing waterproof eyeliners, lip and cheek stains and when used with a cotton bud, for neatening around lips and eye makeup without messing up the rest of the design xx

  3. I use baby oil to remove my eye make-up, it works a treat, it is so cheap and doesn't irritate the skin!

  4. I've never tried this remover before but I love Lancome Bi-Facil. I have very sensitive eyes are the Lancome is the only product that hasn't burned my eyes!

  7. That's too bad this makeup remover didn't work out so well for you. I'm surprised to hear that it only did a so-so job; normally MAC products perform so well. I've been using Kose Softymo Deep Cleansing Oil lately, and it does an excellent job of removing everything, even waterproof liner and mascara :)

    1. I normally love MAC products too and agree their quality is pretty good. Maybe it's just the Fasio mascara that's too tough :)
